investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
Estimating Markov model structures
We investigate the derivation of Markov model structures from text corpora. The structure of a Markov model is its number of states plus the set of outputs and transitions with non-zero probability. The domain of the investigated models is part-of-speech tagging. Our investigations concern two methods to derive Markov models and their structures. Both are able to form categories and allow words...
متن کاملMATHEMATICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICAL REPORTS Markov Degree of the Three-State Toric Homogeneous Markov Chain Model
Markov chain models had proved to be useful tools in many fields, such as physics, chemistry, information sciences, economics, finances, mathematical biology, social sciences, and statistics for analyzing data. A discrete time Markov chain is often used as a statistical model from a random physical process to fit the observed data. A time-homogeneous Markov chain is a process that each transiti...
متن کاملA Sequential Choice Model of Recreation Behavior
The travel cost model is the standard model used in the recreation demand literature. This model assumes that the decision on the number of trips to a particular site in a given period (a season, for example) is determined at the beginning of the period. For certain types of recreation activity, this decision may be more appropriately modeled as a sequential process, in which the decision of wh...
متن کاملThe three-state toric homogeneous Markov chain model has Markov degree two
We prove that the three-state toric homogenous Markov chain model has Markov degree two. In algebraic terminology this means, that a certain class of toric ideals are generated by quadratic binomials. This was conjectured by Haws, Martin del Campo, Takemura and Yoshida, who proved that they are generated by degree six binomials.
